What is this wine?
Isole e Olena, founded by Paolo De Marchi, is one of Chianti Classico’s benchmark estates, known for producing elegant Sangiovese as well as a revered Vin Santo. Made traditionally, the Vin Santo comes from Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes that are air-dried for several months before a slow fermentation and long aging—over a decade—in small oak and chestnut casks. Bottled in half-bottle format (375ml), it is a concentrated, age-worthy Tuscan sweet wine. The 2011 vintage was warm and generous, yielding rich, powerful Vin Santo with balancing acidity.

Nestled on a perfect hillside in Chianti Classico, Isole e Olena has some of the most coveted vineyards in the entire region. As a 4th generation winemaker in his family Paolo de Marchi has been at the helm of the winery since the 1970s. He spent many harvests in California as well as France, which influenced him to modernize and improve many aspects of viticulture and winemaking in Chianti.
