Cantalupo is the reference-point producer of Ghemme. Ghemme’s soils are very special. The same glaciers that left us those magnificent Northern Italian lakes like Como also deposited a fascinating assortment of minerals as they retreated up the Alps. Those minerals, together with varying proportions of sand, gravel, and rocks, now form the thin soils where Ghemme’s Nebbiolo is planted.
Cantalupo produces a single vineyard bottling from only their two top sites, and one of them is Collis Carellae. The unusual name is taken from the Celts who may have produced wine here even before the Romans.
