What is this wine?
Bodega Chacra Pinot Noir Sin Azufre 2024 is a natural, no-added-sulfur Pinot Noir from Patagonia, Argentina. Founded by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta (of the Sassicaia family), Bodega Chacra farms biodynamically in the Río Negro Valley, where cool breezes and alluvial soils create an ideal microclimate for vibrant, mineral-driven wines. The Sin Azufre cuvée comes from 100% Pinot Noir grown in Chacra’s oldest ungrafted vineyards, planted in 1955. It’s fermented spontaneously with native yeasts in concrete tanks and bottled without fining, filtration, or sulfur addition.

Why get this wine?
This is one of the most iconic natural wines from the Southern Hemisphere — a pure, transparent expression of Patagonia and Pinot Noir. Piero Incisa’s meticulous farming and minimal-intervention philosophy yield a wine that’s alive, energetic, and beautifully balanced. The 2024 vintage continues the line’s reputation for precision and finesse despite its zero-sulfur approach.

What does this wine taste like?
Silky and aromatic, with notes of wild strawberry, raspberry, rose petal, and crushed stone. The palate is fresh and vibrant, framed by fine tannins and a touch of savory earth. A pure, delicate, and ethereal Pinot Noir.

When should you drink this wine?
Drink now through 2030. Best served slightly cool. Enjoy on its own or with roasted vegetables, salmon, or mushroom dishes. Handle gently and store cool, as it’s unfiltered and naturally expressive.

Jean Marc Roulot was at dinner at Guillaume d’Angerville’s place with their friend Piero, the founder of Argentina's culty Chacra winery. Piero mentioned, while discussing his Patagonian terroir, his desire to try making a white cuvée in Argentina.

Now, Roulot is one of the best Chardonnay growers on the planet, so he’d be a good guy to chat up about making white wines of terroir. But he doesn't seem a likely candidate to jet off to Patagonia and start making Argentinian Chardonnay.

But Piero had found a unique terroir in Patagonia and Roulot was intrigued. Intrigued enough to propose working with him, and when Roulot visited he found, in his words, a “magical place” where “nature is so strong.” This was an opportunity to do something new: work with a friend, “not trying to make a copy of Burgundy in Argentina—totally different. Trying to produce a good Chardonnay in Argentina.”

And that’s what they've done. Piero’s magical terroir and Roulot’s Chardonnay touch come together to make an amazing, totally new white wine. The Chacra Mainque Chardonnay comes from three plots with sand over mineral soils with river rocks and limestone. Desert-like weather (hot days, cold nights) make ripe fruit with good acidity.

"Deriving from the same site as the Cincuenta y Cinco bottling, the 2024 Sin Azufre saw no sulfur added throughout the vinification process, save for the bottling process. It introduces itself with a strikingly pure, deep, intense and weightless bouquet with a darker-fruited profile than observed elsewhere in the range. The palate is a compelling combination of fluid, compact and tensile, seamlessly releasing into a juicy, elegant coating and focused finish with an earth-tinged undercurrent and citrus-driven fit. It's a fantastically pure and lively expression of Patagonia Pinot Noir." -Matthew Luczy
