The Chappellet Cabernet Franc is a traditional Bordeaux blend with Cabernet Franc at its base. The original vines were planted in 1989, making Cabernet Franc a relatively new addition to Pritchard Hill. This variety thrives on the hill’s volcanic soils, where conditions are ideal for developing ripe, concentrated flavors. The wine was bottled after spending 22 months in French Oak barrels (60% new). 78% Cabernet Franc, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Malbec, 2% Petit Verdot, 2% Merlot.

Chappellet produces wines of extraordinary power, grace and balance. The family purchased 320 acres of rocky hillsides above the valley in the mid-sixties including the soon to be famous Pritchard Hill Vineyard, which quickly became recognized as one of the worlds best locations to grow Cabernet Sauvignon. When Donn Chappellet purchased those 320 acres of prime mountainside Napa land, he paid the same price that it would cost to buy one comparable acre today, thus these world class wines are often a fraction of the price of their less heralded neighbor’s.

"The 2019 Cabernet Franc is a blend of 78% Cabernet Franc, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Malbec, 2% Petit Verdot and 2% Merlot. Deep garnet-purple colored, the nose springs forth with notions of blueberry preserves, redcurrant jelly and boysenberries, plus wafts of bay leaves, pencil shavings and red roses. The palate is a medium to full-bodied, tightly knit, structured style with a ripe, fine-grained and refreshing line supporting the bright red and blue fruits, finishing with fantastic length." -Robert Parker
