What is this wine?
Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils, based in Chassagne-Montrachet, has become one of the Côte de Beaune’s most admired estates, producing whites of precision, intensity, and elegance. Les Grandes Ruchottes is a high-altitude premier cru with thin, chalky soils, yielding Chardonnay that is taut, mineral-driven, and long-lived. The 2020 vintage was warm and generous, but careful farming preserved freshness, giving wines of concentration, balance, and impressive aging potential.

Why get this wine?
Moreau’s wines have become cult bottlings, with demand far outstripping supply. Grandes Ruchottes is one of his most distinctive premiers crus, showing purity and finesse rather than opulence. In the excellent 2020 vintage, it offers near–grand cru tension and length—making it a rare and collectible wine for serious Burgundy lovers.

What does this wine taste like?
Lemon, green apple, and pear with notes of white flowers, chalk, and subtle hazelnut. Focused and mineral, with racy acidity and a long, saline finish.

When should you drink this wine?
Best 2025–2038. Decant if drinking young. Perfect with oysters, grilled fish, roast chicken, or alpine cheeses.

Domaine Bernard Moreau has always been a great producer: superb vineyards, great farming, and careful work in the cellar. It is difficult and painstaking work to improve something that is already near its best. Throughout their long tenure Alex and Benoît Moreau have continued to make tiny improvements year after year, vintage after vintage. Their dedication has paid off and they have reached the top tier of white Burgundy producers. I think of them as the Roulot of Chassagne in terms of leanness, minerality, and letting terroir speak.

Alex and Benoît have been in total control of the domaine since 1999, after completing formal studies and long apprenticeships abroad. Alex is the winemaker, Benoît concentrates on the farming, and they both work on the now extended élevage. These two have reinvigorated their two hundred-year-old family property, the wines are better than they ever have been.
