What is this wine?
Domaine Dujac Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru 2023 is a rare and refined white Burgundy from one of the Côte de Beaune’s most distinguished Premier Cru vineyards. The Dujac family, based in Morey-Saint-Denis, is world-renowned for their biodynamic farming, restrained use of oak, and meticulous precision in both red and white winemaking. Les Combettes lies just below Meursault-Perrières and borders Puligny’s 1er Cru Les Referts, producing Chardonnays noted for their generosity, mineral drive, and aging potential. The wine is fermented with native yeasts and aged in French oak barrels (about 20–25% new) for roughly 12 months.

Why get this wine?
This cuvée represents Dujac at their most elegant: pure, crystalline fruit wrapped in subtle oak and framed by classic Puligny tension. The 2023 vintage brought a beautifully balanced expression — ripe yet taut, with the domaine’s hallmark energy and finesse. For collectors, this is a sought-after bottle that bridges the finesse of Puligny with Dujac’s unmistakable precision and depth.

What does this wine taste like?
Complex and poised, with aromas of lemon curd, white peach, hazelnut, and chalk. The palate is layered and silky, combining ripe fruit with vivid acidity and a long, saline mineral finish.

When should you drink this wine?
Drink 2026–2038. Decant briefly if opened young. Serve cool with lobster, scallops, or roast chicken — or cellar for added complexity.

Even very casual consumers of Burgundy have likely heard of Domaine Dujac, considered one of the very best producers in Morey-Saint-Denis. This is a rather astounding fact given that the Domaine is only 50 years old, a blink in the eye given the region's winemaking history.

When Jacques Seysses purchased the estate of Marcel Graillet in 1967, it was in disrepair and had been selling fruit off in bulk for some years. In less then a decade he had invested heavily in the property and found customers for his domaine bottled wines. The Dujac name begin to be seen at top restaurants in France and beyond.

Fast forward 20 years and you have Jacques' sons, Alec and Jeremy, taking over the reigns of the now expanded Domaine, with holdings in Gevrey, Chambolle, Vosne, Nuits and Puligny. Today Jeremy and his wife Diana Snowden (herself from a prominent wine-making family in Napa) are largely responsible for the operations.

The winemaking has evolved. Jacques was famous for using 100% whole clusters and 100% new oak. Jeremy and Diana are the first to tell you that adaptation is key. The climate is changing dramatically in Burgundy, and every vintage presents new challenges. Stem use is between 20% and 100%, depending on the vintage and the vineyard. Same goes for oak use. On a visit there last spring Jeremy was excited to show us his concrete egg tanks that were aging the Puligny-Montrachets.

All of this is to say that this now storied Domaine is in very good hands as it heads into the future.

Burghound

"Note: from a .60 ha parcel. Here the wood treatment surrounding the even more floral-suffused aromas of just sliced apple and poached pear is slightly more prominent. The medium weight flavors aren't as concentrated but they're finer with a subtle minerality adding a sense of lift to the balanced, dry and mildly more persistent finale. As Combettes almost always is, this is a wine of class and finesse.*Burghound Outstanding!*" -Allen Meadows

"The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru comes from older vines than the Les Folatières. It has a touch of crushed stone on the nose, but it doesn't really engage like the 2022 last year. Likewise, this sample lacks a bit of length and is missing a bit of horsepower compared to the previous vintage." -Neal Martin

"The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes was picked a week later, and it's richer and fuller than the Folatières, unwinding in the glass with a gently reductive bouquet of orange zest, flowers and peach. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's fleshy and textural, with lively acids and a gently exotic finish." -William Kelley
