There are a lot of Boillots. Domaine Lucien Boillot is run by son Pierre Boillot, he split the family holdings with his brother Louis. They inherited very old vines from their father and great-grandfather Henri Boillot.

They own some great 1er Cru vineyards; Pommard Croix Noires is just below Rugiens, Gevrey Cherbaudes right next to Chapelle-Chambertin and Gevrey Corbeaux borders Mazis-Chambertin. Don't miss the Pommard 1er Cru Croix Noires - a five star wine.

Pierre’s work in the cellars is geared towards transparent, terroir-driven wines of purity and finesse. He is not adverse to rich, plump, lusciousness in his reds. Kermit Lynch has been importing these wines for decades.

The rich, full and mouth coating flavors offer real size and weight with excellent mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in a punchy and firmly but not aggressively structured finish that displays real drive and energy. "From 90-year-old vines (his oldest) from below the Clos de Beze comes Boillot’s 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cherbaudes. Concentrated fresh black cherry mingles with incense and resin on the nose. A silky texture, ultra-fine tannins, and intense fresh and liqueur-like expression of black fruit make for a memorable mouthful of Pinot that finishes with refined hints of cherry pit, brown spices, meat and mineral, fresh fruit clarity, and gentle but long reach. This should be fascinating to follow for a decade or more."
