From the producer: Our cuvée comes from three plots in Pommard representing a total of 2.22 hectares. The plot “Les cras” which is located at the bottom of the hill and facing due east. Its origin comes from the word Cras - "stony hillside", often used to designate a vineyard that is located below. And the “Les Vignots” and “La Chanière” plots, facing south, are located on the hillside above Pommard, in more calcareous soils.
At the top of the hill, the soil is deep and stony clay-limestone. Below towards the Cras, the ground is made up of stony scree and pebbles.

Genot-Boulanger is run by Aude and Guillaume Lavollée. He broke a 20 generation run as pharmacists by purchasing some vines in Mercurey, and then Meursault; her long-established Burgundian family (the Genots and the Boulangers) gave the estate its name. They’ve spent the last decade reinvigorating the estate’s soils, converting the farming to organic (with some biodynamic influence) and encouraging healthy biodiversity of plants, animals and microbes.

At Genot-Boulanger, the focus is on freshness and terroir expression. Fruit is harvested before it comes overly ripe, to preserve acidity, and each site is worked painstakingly (often with a horse-drawn plough). In the cellar, new oak is limited to a maximum of 15%.

"The 2019 Pommard Vieilles Vignes is a blend of Les Cras Les Vignots and La Chanière. It has a well-defined and quite earthy bouquet of red berry fruit. The palate is well balanced with crunchy red berry fruit laced with a splash of balsamic. The parcels ripened at different times due to variations in microclimates and that engenders a more complex Pommard. Fine salinity toward the finish and a minerally aftertaste. Very fine." -Vinous
