Château Raymond-Lafon sits just outside Yquem and has built a strong reputation despite its unclassified status. The estate, revitalized by the Meslier family in the 1970s, crafts long-lived Sauternes from old-vine Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.

The 1988 vintage is now fully mature, showing classic notes of dried apricot, orange peel, and honey. Rich and viscous with balanced acidity, it’s a benchmark example of aged Sauternes.

Professional Reviews

Robert Parker

RP 92
"The 1988 possesses an opulent, full-bodied, exotic, lavishly rich personality, moderate sweetness, and huge quantity of extract, glycerin, and alcohol in its finish. The wine is also extremely young and unevolved. The 1988 offers a refined aromatic profile and tight structure. It can be drunk now, but purchasers are advised to wait until the turn of the century and enjoy it over the following two decades." -Robert Parker
