Certan de May is an excellent Pomerol producer that is overshadowed by its more famous neighbor, VCC, which lies just across the street on a similar patch of clay and gravel.

"Crimson with a very healthy, glowing ruby rim. Fresh, aromatic, lightly leafy nose but with masses of rich ripeness underneath. Served blind, it was clearly a right-bank wine and probably a Pomerol with all that richness. Very sweet, grainy, round and mature. Gorgeously opulent. A really very successful 1986. Certan de May was on a roll in the 1980s."
