Lejano translates to "far away or distant" which accurately describes this spectacular site, two hours drive from anywhere. The vineyard enjoys unobstructed views of the Pacific, and clings to a series of hills right at the fog line. In the wild 2020 vintage, we erred on the side of caution and implemented conservative winemaking protocols such as earlier harvest dates, destemming every cluster, gently extracting (no punch downs) and bottling only the free run juice released during the wine's fermentation. The result? A very lithe, pure wine with that electric red crunch we've come to expect from this zone.

After years of batting around the idea, Kevin O’Connor, wine director at Spago Beverly Hills and wine salesman Matt Licklider, started the Lioco label with the goal of producing pure and transparent wines that favor nuance over power. They hired like minded winemakers and by 2006 their wines were starting to receive critical attention and rave reviews from the few folks that could get their hands on them.

Over the years Lioco has consistently produced impressive terroir driven wines that offer both complexity and pleasure.
