A few hundred miles southwest of the Northern Rhône, traveling over several mountain ranges including the Pyrenees, you would eventually arrive in Spain's Galicia. Here, among the slopes of the Ribeiro region, you'll find Manuel Formigo. For generations his family has farmed grapes in this beautiful, coastal region. But they were part of large scale, industrial wine production and interested more in high yields and the amount of bottles they could fill with wine. But about 20 years ago Manuel took his family vineyards in different direction and began to bottle high quality, terroir respective wines using the traditional family name of Formigo de la Fuente. He has now converted the entire estate to organic farming and the operation is intensely focused on what happens in the vineyard. But the winemaking has also improved drastically with Manuel at the helm, again all with the focus of preserving the unique terroir of Ribeiro.
