The Châteauneuf-du-Papes of Domaine du Pegau are true a true archetype of the appellation. Their heritage stretches back to 1670 when the Féraud family was just cultivating a few plots of vines as well as some olive and cherry trees. Almost 350 years since then, their ancestors have transformed what was a humble family farm into one of the most classic producers of Châteauneuf-du-Pape of all time.

The modern story of Domaine du Pegau started in 1987 when father/daughter team Paul & Laurence Féraud renamed their family estate to what we know it as today. Their property in Châteauneuf is made up of eleven separate vineyard parcels spread throughout the Courthézon, La Solitude and Bédarrides sectors of the appellation. These sandy and pebble-strewn vineyards are organically farmed and harvested only by hand.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

"Pungent aromas of crème de cassis, strawberry jam, ripe black cherry, garrigue, white pepper and crushed rocks usher in the 2019 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée. Full-bodied, broad-shouldered, concentrated and layered, it is framed by a firm tannic structure and high levels of fresh acidity, keeping everything in check. The complex finish goes on for well over a minute." -Nicolas Greinacher

Robert Parker

"As I wrote previously, the 2019 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Réservée looks set to rival the best examples of this bottling. Made up of approximately 80% Grenache, with 6% Syrah, 4% Mourvèdre and smaller amounts of other permitted varieties, it's impressively complex on the nose, with scents of black cherries, blackberries and black olives, plus mysterious wafts of violets and garrigue. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, it finishes long and velvety, a sure-fire bet for cellaring. It's gratifying to see wines evolve as expected during their élevage and make it into bottle just as remembered." -Joe Czerwinski

"Dark and brooding, this has serious heft, with tightly coiled plum reduction and black licorice offset by savory tea, menthol, smoked meat and iodine. A great example of an old-school style, with mineral intensity building and salty iron and grippy tannins carrying the finish. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre."

"Sanguine aromas emerge from a layer of black plum, black cherry, seamlessly melding with violets and eucalyptus. With further aeration, a meaty undertone and black olive emerge, creating a remarkably complex nose. The palate offers vibrant blueberry, subtly dusted in oak spice, with earthy mushroom tones adding depth and intrigue."
