Many of Sebastien’s neighbors thought he was a bit crazy when he took over his family’s organic estate in 1999. He converted to biodynamic and started producing wines using ancient methods that many of those neighbors had long cast off favoring the convenience and consistency of modern winemaking practices. He also stopped using sulfur in the winery which is always considered a risky move by the local wine establishment.
Perhaps Sebastien had the confidence to make these changes because he is a 17th generation winemaker. His family have been making wine in the Loire Valley since 1634. The domain is situated on 15 hectare throughout the Saint Nicolas-de-Bourgueil appellation and is 100% Cabernet Franc, mainly from vines planted by Sebastien's grandparents just after the 2nd World War. The vines grow on limestone and clay soils with a little gravel, perfect for Cabernet Franc.
All of this allows Sebastien to produce terroir-driven wines that are vibrant and wild yet precise and elegant.
