Why does Alsace get overlooked? The answer is maybe it actually doesn't anymore. A lot of our sommelier friends come by the shop to see what is new in Alsace, which means they're putting the wines on top wine lists too. So it's only a matter of time before the press catches up.
And in truth the top domaines have always been sought out among collectors. Domaine Weinbach is in the very top tier (with Trimbach and Humbrecht).
Weinbach has a long tradition of excellence (over 400 years long!) in producing wines in the heart of what is considered Alsace's best terroir. The Domaine's original vineyard, Clos du Capucins, sits at the foot of the Grand Cru Schlossberg which was the first Grand Cru in Alsace. Their style is to pure and transparent: emphasizing terroir and elegance over power.
