Cathy Corison discovered her passion for wine while studying biology in Claremont, CA. She went on to get a masters in enology at UC Davis in the mid-1970s then, after stints at leading estates (like Chappellet), founded her eponymous estate. She produced her first vintage in 1987 and has been making her Cabernet the same way ever since, walking the fine line between elegance and power.

The vineyards are some of Napa's best Cabernet sites, located between Rutherford and St. Helena, with deep stony and alluvial soils that produce a sublimely concentrated and elegant Cabernet Sauvignon. Exercising minimal intervention in the cellar, Cathy explains her winemaking technique as: “a hands-off approach to winemaking; it is my job to let the vineyards speak.”

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 90
"Heady, potent wine that shows the heat of the year in its forward, opulent personality. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, chocolate, herbs, earthiness, and liquorice are all amplified in this decidedly exuberant, potent wine. There's not a lot of subtlety, and plenty of impact. Even so, this opens nicely with aeration." -Vinous

Robert Parker

"Gentle herbal steaks run through the wine's classic black cherries and cassis fruit. Medium-bodied, sleek and streamlines, it shows vibrant energy and ample length, framed by gentle, silky tannins."

Jancis Robinson

"Dark garnet. Smells of black cherry and cassis. Gorgeous cherry, dried flowers, and herb flavors have an ethereal quality as bright acidity makes for a mouth-watering package. The tannins are wispy ghosts that hang in the corners of the mouth. Utterly refined. the idea of a wine this gorgeous being made in a year when a large percentage of producers in Napa made no wine at all thanks to the fires positively boggles the mind."

Decanter

D 96
"Medium to full-bodied, beautiful and restrained, with savoury aromatics of fennel, black liquorice, cedar, and black currants. Soft, satiny blackberry fruits are lifted by fine-grained yet supple tannins while a purity of fruit guides the palate to a long, tobacco-tinged finish marked by a mineral-freshness that beckons sip after sip -"

Wine Enthusiast

"Classic balance and a little restraint characterize this firmly structured, deeply flavored wine that brings black cherries, cranberries, and black pepper to the front, backed by slightly tangy acidity and texturizing tannins that will help it mature nicely."
