Château Peyrabon is an unusual cru Bourgeois property with vineyards split between the appellations of Haut-Médoc and Pauillac. Founded in 1766, the Château became increasingly popular, so much so that by the late 1800s their prices rivaled those of the 1855 classified growths. Spurred on by this success, then owner Arnaud Roux sued for Peyrabon to be included as a classified estate. Sadly for him he was unsuccessful.Purchased in 1998 by Patrick Bernard of wine merchant Millesima, the estate has grown in its renown and quality. The Haut-Médoc vineyard is larger with over 30 hectares under vine, though most of it is close to the Pauillac boundary. Grown on excellent gravelly terroir, the wine is definitely top Cru Bourgeois standard.
