The name Roulot is now a synonym for the very best wine that the village of Meursault can offer. It is rather remarkable when you consider that just 2 generations back the Roulot's were known as producers of Burgundian brandy and eau de vie. But Guy Roulot began leveraging the family's distilling success to purchase small plots of vines in Meursault and by the 1970's was known as a pioneer for producing top quality chardonnay from distinct parcels or ""lieu-dits"".

When Guy passed away unexpectedly in the early '80's his son Jean-Marc was pursuing acting in Paris. In 1989 he returned to take on the reigns of the small Domaine and in the following decades built on his father's success so well that the wines are now extremely hard to acquire and to afford for most of us.

Professional Reviews

Burghound

BH 96
"A restrained and distinctly cool nose is composed by notes of mineral reduction, pear, citrus peel and acacia blossom that are trimmed in just enough matchstick character to notice. The beautifully delineated middle weight flavors possess an almost aggressive minerality while displaying stunningly good length on the focused, balanced, bone dry and hugely long finish. This is class in a glass and potentially brilliant." -Allen Meadows

"Revisited from bottle, the 2017 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières confirms its status as one of the wines of the vintage, unwinding in the glass with aromas of citrus oil, white flowers, crushed chalk and fresh pastry that only hint of the complexity to come. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with an exquisitely satiny attack, a deep and multidimensional core and considerable concentration underpinned by incisive acids. Concluding with a long, penetrating and searingly chalky finish, this Perrières is a brilliant achievement." -Robert Parker

"Stony/chalky on the nose, much less opulent on the nose then the Clos des Bouchères. Flinty and smoky. On the palate, an acid tension, almost a sour-spicy grapefruit, and a steely core with lovely alignment. Goes on for ever. Utterly precise and tightly structured but no lack of fruit. Perfect balance."

"The Roulots' 0.26ha parcel is entirely located in Perrières Dessous, so is better positioned than their Charmes. This is a correspondingly superb wine, right up there with some of the best white wines of the vintage. This aristocratic wine is everything you want from a Meursault premier cru: finesse, weight, balance, minerality and incredible palate length."
