Cantemerle is one of the rare crus-classรฉs to hail from Haut-Mรฉdoc โ a 5th growth located just beyond AOC Margauxโs borders. Unsurprisingly, it drinks quite a bit like a Margaux; itโs Cabernet-based (yet softer than a Pauillac or Saint-Estephe), and with age it develops an expressive perfume, with good complexity and a slightly โsauvageโ quality to its fruit.
But, because itโs not a true Margaux, Cantemerle is perennially undervalued on the market, which makes it a bit of an โinsiderโsโ wine. We love that. We also love how, despite its ability to age, Cantemerle tends to be a little softer and more approachable than itโs cru classรฉ peers.
