Cantemerle is one of the rare crus-classรฉs to hail from Haut-Mรฉdoc โ€“ a 5th growth located just beyond AOC Margauxโ€™s borders. Unsurprisingly, it drinks quite a bit like a Margaux; itโ€™s Cabernet-based (yet softer than a Pauillac or Saint-Estephe), and with age it develops an expressive perfume, with good complexity and a slightly โ€˜sauvageโ€™ quality to its fruit.

But, because itโ€™s not a true Margaux, Cantemerle is perennially undervalued on the market, which makes it a bit of an โ€œinsiderโ€™sโ€ wine. We love that. We also love how, despite its ability to age, Cantemerle tends to be a little softer and more approachable than itโ€™s cru classรฉ peers.
