Domaine Cottenceau farms Les Chazelles, a single site in Montagny planted with Pinot Noir—a rarity in this Chardonnay-dominated village. The domaine is a young, energetic project run by siblings Vincent and Emilie, who farm organically and vinify with minimal intervention.

2022 was a ripe, balanced vintage, and the Cottenceaus captured it with precision. Fermentation is with native yeasts, and aging takes place in neutral oak. A pure, site-specific expression of Pinot from a lesser-known corner of the Côte Chalonnaise.

Maxime Cottenceau's family has been growing and selling off its grapes in Montagny for generations. After spending three years with Vincent Dureuil, he decided, in 2018, to start making and bottling his own wines. They are finally available here in the United States.

Stylistically, the wines echo Dureuil-Janthial’s depth, detail and cut, but there is a bit more power, and a bit more opulence — that’s Montagny's influence.
