Domaine Henri Delagrange
If Maison Leroy is buying your grapes, it means your fruit must be something special. After all, it’s arguably Burgundy’s most illustrious négociant, run by the legendary Lalou-Bize Leroy, who also owns Domaine Leroy and Domaine d’Auvenay. Oh, and her family also owns 50% of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.Lalou Bize has a discerning eye for quality and the resources to accept nothing less than the very best. Maison Leroy wines are also eye-wateringly expensive. Even their “entry-level” Bourgogne Rouge goes for $150-$250 a bottle. For years, Volnay-based Domaine Henri Delagrange sold fruit to Maison Leroy from a single parcel of 50-60 year-old vines just outside Volnay appellation limits. But when young Alexis Delagrange took over the family estate, he decided not to renew the contract with Leroy and began to make his own wine from these special grapes.
