What is this wine?
Piquentum is the project of winemaker Dimitri Brečević, based in Buzet, Istria (Croatia). A native of France with Istrian roots, Brečević works organically, making wines with minimal intervention that highlight Istria’s karst limestone and red-clay soils. Refošk (also known as Refosco) is a historic red grape of the northern Adriatic, known for its deep color, vibrant acidity, and savory character. The 2021 vintage in Istria was balanced and classic, producing structured but elegant reds.
Why get this wine?
This is a true taste of Istria—authentic, distinctive, and far removed from international-style reds. Brečević’s Refošk is made with native yeasts and long macerations, resulting in a wine that is rustic yet refined, full of energy and character. For adventurous drinkers, it’s a great discovery that pairs brilliantly with Mediterranean cuisine.
