Selbach-Oster draws from old, ungrafted vines in Zeltingen to craft this focused dry Riesling. "Alte Reben" 2021 comes from steep, slate slopes of the Mosel’s Zeltinger vineyards, showcasing depth and mineral clarity from low-yielding, mature vines.

Naturally fermented in traditional fuder casks, this is a structured, bone-dry Riesling with vivid acidity. Ideal for seafood, pork, or savory vegetarian dishes.

Johannes Selbach is beyond a doubt one of the great producers in the wine world. But, being based in Germany, their wines are available at totally reasonable prices. Usually we can stock many of them year-round.

Selbach is renowned for his ability to take a snapshot of a vineyard at one place in time with every bottling he makes. His favorite sites are picked all at once, with grapes at every level of ripeness, fermented together and labelled with a site name like Rotlay or Antrecht, rather than a Prädikat level.

The Selbach family has been making wine in the Mosel for 400 hundred years, making them one of the oldest wine making houses in the region. But the wines are not old-fashioned; in fact, they exemplify everything we love about modern day Mosel wines: racy minerality, finesse and beautifully balanced acidity.

Professional Reviews

Robert Parker

RP 93
"Assembling the former Spätlese trocken bottlings from Schlossberg, Himmelreich and Sonnenuhr, the inaugural 2021 Zeltinger Riesling trocken "Alte Reben" was aged in classic foudres until mid-July and will be bottled shortly before the next harvest. The dusty sample shows a very flinty scented, intense and concentrated as well as juicy fruit bouquet with fine phenolic notes. Lush and intense on the palate yet light and fresh, this is a saline, still yeasty and beautifully pure and fresh Riesling with character and a salivating, saline, crystalline and lemon-bitter finish. A potential Best Buy." -Stephan Reinhardt

"This presents a classic profile with bright grapefruit notes that energize the palate. Its decent length showcases a subtle mineral backbone, adding depth to the experience. While moderate in complexity, it remains an enjoyable and refreshing choice for Riesling lovers." -Aleks Zecevic
