The estate of Giuseppe Nada traces its roots to the purchase of a small house, vineyard and orchard in the year 1900. The property is just outside the village of Trieso and the former owner had the name of Gaja.In 1964 Giuseppe’s father began bottling some of the family production on his own and built a small cellar in order to do so. A couple of years later the DOC of Barberesco was created and presto, the estate was now making wine in what would become one of Piedmont’s most famous wine regions. Today the Nada’s farm 6 hectares from the two crus of Marcarini and Casot. Their terroir is among the finest in the Barbaresco and Giuseppe is a tireless farmer who spends long hours in the vineyard to this day.Giuseppe’s son took over the cellar work a little over a decade ago. Enrico eliminated SO2 additions during fermentation and reduced it at bottling. He also stopped fining and does only a very light filtration as needed. Then he ages the Barbareschi in a range of barrels, mostly large and neutral for about 2 years, much longer than required. And he convinced his parents to go organic in the vineyard. They were certified in 2017.Though all different vintages, every wine was supremely elegant, floral and silky. The combination of excellent vineyards and Enrico’s delicate and fastidious touch in the cellar have made these wines into top tier Nebbiolos, but the wine world hype hasn’t quite caught up with them yet.
