What is this wine?
Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy’s greatest and most historic domaines, synonymous with benchmark expressions of Gevrey-Chambertin and its grands crus. Mazis-Chambertin is one of the village’s northernmost grands crus, known for its power and intensity, with stony, iron-rich soils that produce structured, complex Pinot Noir. The 2020 vintage was warm but balanced, yielding concentrated reds with vibrant aromatics and fine aging potential.

Why get this wine?
Rousseau’s wines are among the most collectible in the world, and their Mazis-Chambertin is a brilliant counterpoint to their Chambertin and Clos de Bèze—more sauvage and muscular, yet still elegant in Rousseau’s hands. With allocations microscopic and demand global, the 2020 is a rare opportunity to own one of Burgundy’s most iconic bottlings.

What does this wine taste like?
Black cherry, plum, and blackberry with layers of spice, earth, game, and mineral depth. Powerful yet refined, with firm tannins, bright acidity, and a long, structured finish.

When should you drink this wine?
Best 2028–2050. Decant if drinking young. Ideal with venison, duck, or truffle-infused dishes.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 97
"The 2020 Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru is endowed with one of the most floral aromatics amongst Rousseau’s range with iris and peony scents infusing the dark berry fruit. This is beautifully defined - a cousin of the Charmes-Chambertin. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins - a little edgier than the Charmes-Chambertin and also more tension. There is a gradual build as its fans out on the finish. Sheer class, quite audacious." -Neal Martin

"The 2020 Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru is also very promising, wafting from the glass with notions of cherries, mulberries and cassis, complemented by hints of warm spices, smoked meats and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, it's lively and concentrated, with a deep core of fruit and a long, sapid finish." -William Kelley
