From the producer: A noble and delicate grape variety which, it is said, was already cultivated on our territories in the days when Aosta Valley belonged to the KIngdom of Burgundy, and that gives the best results in our mountains when planted on levels ranging between 600 and 850 metres a.s.l., where day/night thermic excursion and exposition to sun produce perfectly healthy and ripe grapes.

We obtain this well bodied and balanced wine from 100% Pinot Noir Grapes. It features a ruby colour tending to garnet, complex and persistent nose with hints of wild berries, balanced in the mouth, soft with dry taste and good alcohol content, slightly tannic.

The Grosjean family has been farming the Valle d'Aosta since it was French territory, but it was only in the 1960s that Dauphin Grosjean (can you get more French with a name like that?) decided to turn the family's house wine, for family consumption, into a career. He began in earnest in 1969, and since 1975 only sustainable and organic farming practices have been used.

Dauphin's sons now run the estate, and are focused on producing gorgeous wines, made with integrity.

What importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...

Although native to the Côte d’Or, Pinot Noir has been cultivated in the Val d’Aoste since both regions were under the Burgundian Dukes in the Middle Ages. While 70% of Grosjean’s vines are French clones, 30% are the rare Wadenzwil cultivar. Grosjean’s example blends varietal typicity with raciness and freshness. The vineyards are at a high altitude (600-750m) and steep incline, allowing for the distinct alpine characteristics to show through. Vinification in wood casks with daily punching down for three days, followed by 10-12 days of settling before aging partly in steel, part in oak.
