Mauro Franchino makes some of the very finest, classiest, and most old-school wines in the region,—but only about 7000 bottles a year. Not surprising, given his tiny holdings (3ha, a very small area from which to eke his living, yet also a huge proportion of the 10ha of land in Gattinara not owned by the three largest producers).
