Kistler Vineyards is a family owned estate, founded in 1978. They produce both of the main Burgundy varietals, but are most known for their various heritage Chardonnay bottlings from throughout Sonoma county. The wines are produced using native yeasts, French oak, and are unfined and unfiltered.

Kistler has a passionate focus on a unique heritage Californian clonal selection, today planted across fifteen vineyards in Carneros, Sonoma Valley, Russian River Valley, and the Sonoma Coast. Their wines, across the range and for many years now, have been exactly what we want to drink when we want elegant, complex, definitive California Chardonnay.

Longtime winemaker Jason Kesner harvests fruit in the dark, taking advantage of Sonoma's chilly, crisp nights when these perfect clusters are in their most pristine state. Chardonnays are fermented in subterranean barrel cellar with native yeast. The throughline is magnificent texture and formidable, lingering intensity.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 94
"The 2012 Chardonnay Vine Hill Vineyard is one of the most distinctive Chardonnays in this range. A real sense of vertical structure runs through the wine, conveying an impression of vitality and energy. Orange blossom, mint, apricot pit, lemon oil, white pepper and lightly honeyed notes lead to a super-expressive finish." -Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

RP 95
"The honeysuckle, white currants, quince and wet rock/mineral notes of the crisp yet full-bodied, concentrated 2012 Chardonnay Vine Hill are fresh, lively, exuberant and, at the same time, powerful and elegant. This is a beauty, combining both elegance and depth. It should drink well for 5-7 years." -Robert M. Parker, Jr.

Wine Spectator

WS 92
"Offers a firm, deep core of lemon- and grapefruit-scented green apple and nectarine notes, maintaining a lively, zesty texture and vibrant acidity, ending long and clean. Drink now through 2022."
