Champagne Louis d'Or is essentially a private label that was negotiated for importation and distribution in the U.S. by famed importer Peter Weygandt. It is made by the Blin family in the village of Vincelles, in partnership with 28 other growers in the surrounding Valle de Marne. All the farming is sustainable or practicing organic.
It is 80% Pinot Meunier and 20% Chardonnay. A decade or two ago Meunier was an afterthought for most growers in Champagne, but the grape has responded very well to climate change and some top producers have worked to elevate it’s status to the point that it is now very much “en vogue”. It also helps provide a bit more body and structure while the Chardonnay adds the saline minerality that we love.
It’s the perfect bottle of bubbles to have in the fridge when you need a guilt free excuse to pop something open and transport yourself to a happy place.
