A pioneer of traditional Tuscan winemaking using only indigenous varieties, Montevertine continues to set the standard with this Sangiovese-dominant blend with Canaiolo and Colorino from high-altitude vineyards in Radda. The 2021 was fermented in concrete and aged 24 months in large Slavonian oak, developing precisely structured tannins that are fine and fully integrated. Medium-bodied concentration with racy acidity and cool minerality—arriving soon, the wine shows impressive depth now and improves for years ahead.

You probably already know about Montevertine. It has been one Tuscany's brightest stars for decades, on the forefront of every movement that has made the region what it is today. They stepped out of the consorzio because of their belief in Sangiovese, helping to create the Super-Tuscan movement. They have always sought to express their distinct Radda terroir, laying the foundation for today's growing interest in Chianti's varied crus (and especially in Radda!).

Antonio Galloni

"The 2021 Montevertine is shaping up to be majestic. It presents a mind-boggling display of explosive aromatics, vibrant fruit and driving structure. The purity of the flavors is stunning. I tasted the 2021 from a single cask of the blended wine following the first racking. This is the first vintage that includes a new parcel in Radda located at the far end of town. Rich, dense and very potent. The 2021 is embryonic but also incredibly promising." -Vinous

What importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...

The standard bearer of the estate, it is aged 24 months in large Slavonian oak barrels and is composed of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo (with perhaps a hint of Colorino). The fruit for this bottling comes primarily from a 2.5 hectare parcel of vines planted in 1982 on a south – southeast facing slope.
