What is this wine?
Cascina Penna-Currado Timorasso Derthona 2023 is a structured, mineral white wine from the Colli Tortonesi hills in southeastern Piedmont. The estate was founded by Elena Currado Vietti and Luca Currado (of the famed Vietti Barolo family) together with their son Matteo, following their long-standing passion for Timorasso — a rare indigenous grape that’s now recognized as one of Italy’s most distinctive whites. Farmed organically and vinified with native yeasts, this Derthona bottling is fermented and aged on the lees in stainless steel, allowing the grape’s natural depth and minerality to shine.
Why get this wine?
The Currado family helped revive Timorasso’s reputation, and this new project continues that legacy with precision and authenticity. The 2023 Derthona captures the grape’s hallmark power and texture alongside a vibrant, saline freshness. It’s an exceptional expression of modern Piedmontese white wine — complex, age-worthy, and remarkably food-friendly.
What does this wine taste like?
Full and textural, with aromas of pear, yellow plum, citrus zest, and wild herbs. The palate is layered and mineral, showing waxy depth, stony salinity, and bright acidity on a long finish.
When should you drink this wine?
Drink now through 2032. Serve cool but not cold. Excellent with seafood risotto, roasted poultry, or alpine cheeses — and will develop beautifully in bottle.
