What is this wine?
Bodega Chacra Pinot Noir Treinta y Dos 2023 is the flagship red from Patagonia’s most renowned biodynamic estate, founded by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta (of the Sassicaia family). The wine comes from vines planted in 1932 on original, ungrafted rootstock in the Río Negro Valley. These old vines grow on alluvial, mineral-rich soils that yield remarkably concentrated yet elegant fruit. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts, and the wine is aged in a combination of concrete and neutral oak to preserve purity and texture.

Why get this wine?
Treinta y Dos is one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most celebrated Pinot Noirs — a study in precision, balance, and terroir transparency. It has the ethereal grace of top Burgundy but speaks clearly of Patagonia’s light, wind, and stony soils. What does this wine taste like?
Silky and refined, with aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry, rose petal, and subtle spice. The palate is pure and layered, with fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, mineral finish.

When should you drink this wine?
Drink 2025–2038. Serve slightly cool. Ideal with duck breast, salmon, or earthy vegetable dishes. Decant for 30 minutes to reveal its full aromatic depth.

Jean Marc Roulot was at dinner at Guillaume d’Angerville’s place with their friend Piero, the founder of Argentina's culty Chacra winery. Piero mentioned, while discussing his Patagonian terroir, his desire to try making a white cuvée in Argentina.

Now, Roulot is one of the best Chardonnay growers on the planet, so he’d be a good guy to chat up about making white wines of terroir. But he doesn't seem a likely candidate to jet off to Patagonia and start making Argentinian Chardonnay.

But Piero had found a unique terroir in Patagonia and Roulot was intrigued. Intrigued enough to propose working with him, and when Roulot visited he found, in his words, a “magical place” where “nature is so strong.” This was an opportunity to do something new: work with a friend, “not trying to make a copy of Burgundy in Argentina—totally different. Trying to produce a good Chardonnay in Argentina.”

And that’s what they've done. Piero’s magical terroir and Roulot’s Chardonnay touch come together to make an amazing, totally new white wine. The Chacra Mainque Chardonnay comes from three plots with sand over mineral soils with river rocks and limestone. Desert-like weather (hot days, cold nights) make ripe fruit with good acidity.

A boney, chalky minerality underpins the wine, while heady notes of violets, crushed raspberries and tart cranberries linger above.
