Orly Lumbreras is a mountain winemaker, eking out a living from vineyards situated 950-1125 meters above sea level, surrounded by wild and untamed land. Working predominantly with Garnacha for reds and Albillo for the whites, Orly employs organic and biodynamic methods. He considers himself an observer of the earth, and his wines to be natural, artisanal wines bred from his incredible land and his enormous passion.
As invaluable as a winemaker’s technique is to the success of a wine, so is the land from which the grapes come. In the case of the Sierra de Gredos, the land is firstly, high in altitude, and secondly, very nutritionally deficient. In fact, it is predominantly decomposed granite and sand, with little fertile topsoil to be found, forcing the grapes to draw in every last bit of nutrition they can find—and a huge amount of that cool granitic minerality as well.
