"The red 2022 Vara y Pulgar 100% Tintilla is mostly from purchased grapes from different pagos with 30% from their own vines, the only ones certified organic, in Añina. It fermented in concrete and stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and some full clusters, then it was foot trodden and had a short maceration. It matured for a short time in concrete and oak vat and then in 228- and some 500-liter barrels to complete 18 months. It has some meaty aromas, smoky and spicy, with violets and bacon, hints of anchovies, reminiscent of a Northern Rhône Syrah, with a hint of leather. It's tasty, chalky and salty, these red Atlantic wines can go with fish, with a medium-bodied palate, with marked dryness. It has 13% alcohol and good balance. It was bottled in April 2024, when 24,000 bottles were filled. I tasted the 2016, and it was perfect for current drinking and very nice." -Luis Gutiérrez

"Rustic aromas of black plum, boysenberry, forest floor and black olive open on the nose followed by yogurt and dried mushroom. Tart red fruit leads on the palate with a definitive earthiness riding through the center of the taste. This wine welcomes any mushroom dish, truffle fries and veggie pizzas." -Reggie Solomon
