The wines of Lambruschi are well known among the inner circles of Italian wine fanatics, but have not received much attention stateside. This is likely due to their miniscule quantities and because they’ve never had national distribution in the U.S. It’s a well kept secret that we are happy to be in on and share with you.Fabio’s father, Ottaviano, first established the winery in the late 1970s when he purchased an old vineyard called Costa Marina after retiring from the famous marble quarry that is just over the border in Tuscany. Indeed, the local DOC is named Colli di Luni most likely because of the distinctive white rocks that make the mountains and hillsides look like the surface of the moon. Colli di Luni straddles the border between Liguria and Tuscany, but the vineyards of Costa Marina are all located on the Ligurian side, at about 200 meters and they overlook the Mediterranean which is just a couple miles away. The fresh sea breezes directly influence the grapes, and lend a lovely mineral salinity to the texture and fruit of Vermentino.
