Piero Lanzo, the third generation of his family to oversee Poggerino, is an extremely enthusiastic and passionate winemaker. A self-described almost fanatic devotee to organic farming, Piero harvests the estate's 12 hectares of south-southwest facing vines completely by hand. Fermented in concrete and moved to a mix of large Slovenian and smaller French oak casks for 12 months, the wine is then bottled and aged 8 more months before release.
The ensuing wine is suave and enticing. It's classically styled and just dripping with elegance and vibrancy that can only come from Sangiovese grown on the cool high-elevation slopes of Radda.
