Rostaing, having inherited vines from both Gentaz and Albert Dervieux Thaize (another traditionalist legend, whose 1983 is the greatest Cote Rotie I've ever tasted, ahead of even top vintage Gentaz!), was perhaps destined for greatness. But while his wines have always been good, I was not really convinced that they belonged in Cote Rotie’s top tier until his son Pierre took over a few years ago. Now the wines are sensational. Single vineyards from Cote Blonde and La Landonne are special; the Ampodium is a superb blend designed for early drinking.
