What is this wine?
The Gump Hof estate, run by Markus Prackwieser, is a small, family-owned domaine in Fiè allo Sciliar, near Bolzano in Alto Adige. Vineyards sit at high altitudes (400–800m) on steep, rocky slopes with porphyry and limestone soils, giving wines freshness and mineral drive. Praesulis is his Sauvignon Blanc, sourced from select hillside parcels and vinified in stainless steel with partial lees aging for texture. The 2023 vintage in Alto Adige was cool and balanced, yielding aromatic, precise whites.
Why get this wine?
Prackwieser is widely admired as one of Alto Adige’s most talented growers, producing whites that combine Alpine precision with real depth. Praesulis delivers Sauvignon Blanc with distinctive mountain character—aromatic and fresh but structured and long. It offers outstanding value compared to Loire or New Zealand Sauvignon, while being uniquely South Tyrolean.
What does this wine taste like?
Vivid notes of citrus, gooseberry, and passionfruit with alpine herbs and a flinty, mineral edge. Crisp acidity and a sleek, textured palate lead to a long, refreshing finish.
