The land that is now Snowden Vineyards was first planted to grapes (mostly zinfandel) back in the 1880’s. In 1955 the Snowden family purchased the land and since then they have returned much of the 160 acres to a forest preserve. But they continue to farm 23 acres of mostly Cabernet and Merlot with the utmost care and respect. This is true mountain fruit, located right at the border of the St. Helena and Rutherford AVA’s.
The wines are made by a 3rd generation Snowden, Diana, who also is intimately involved in the winemaking at her husband’s estate in Burgundy: Domaine Dujac. That’s right, Diana Snowden-Seysses is married to Jeremy Seysses and together they help produce some of the world’s most sought after Pinot Noir. Turns out they also make extremely good, and very classic, Napa Valley Cabernet and Merlot.
