From the producer: Notes of black cherry, ripe strawberry, and spiced plum are balanced with aromas of white pepper, clove, and savory oak spices. On the palate, flavors of fresh raspberry and juicy cranberry are heightened by the vibrant acidity in this wine. The texture is smooth and mouth filling and subtle oak notes that linger in the palate.

Katy Wilson has had a long career in California winemaking at places such as Cobb Wines and Kamen Estate. She now produces some of the most beautiful and balanced Pinot Noirs from coastal vineyards under her own label LaRue.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 93
"The 2016 Pinot Noir Rice-Spivak is a deeply intriguing wine from LaRue and proprietor Katy Wilson. A burst of sweet red/purplish berry fruit, lavender, sage, mint, violet and spice give the 2016 much of its distinctive personality. Dark, pliant and super-expressive, the wine pulses with energy and pure class. I loved it." -Vinous

Robert Parker

RP 92
"The 2016 Pinot Noir Rice-Spivak Vineyard is medium ruby-purple in the glass and slowly opens on the nose to stewed Earl Grey tea leaves, saline, rosewater perfume and a broody core of ripe red and black cherries, cranberry and perfumed earth. The medium-bodied palate is concentrated and spicy with soft, grainy tannins and tangy acidity, finishing long and bright." -Robert Parker

Wine Enthusiast

WE 95
"Bright, focused flavors of raspberry, strawberry and pomegranate shine first in this crisp, acid-driven wine from a cool-climate site. The complexity of the wine is impressive: a mix of exotic Asian spice and forested earth that contrast and complement around firm seamless tannin."
