What is this wine?
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) is Burgundy’s most iconic domaine, producing some of the world’s rarest and most collectible wines. Grands Échézeaux is a Grand Cru in Flagey-Échézeaux, adjacent to Clos de Vougeot and Échézeaux but with deeper clay-limestone soils that give greater power and structure. Farmed biodynamically and vinified with DRC’s hallmark precision, the 2017 vintage is one of elegance and purity, following the concentration of 2015 and 2016.
Why get this wine?
DRC’s Grands Échézeaux is often considered the “hidden treasure” of the domaine—less famous than Romanée-Conti or La Tâche, but consistently one of the greatest wines of the Côte de Nuits. The 2017 vintage emphasizes finesse and perfume, making this both collectible and accessible earlier than some of the estate’s more monumental bottlings.
What does this wine taste like?
Aromatic red cherry, raspberry, and strawberry with layers of rose petal, exotic spice, earth, and fine-grained minerality. Silky yet powerful, with refined tannins, vibrant acidity, and a finish of extraordinary length and elegance.
When should you drink this wine?
Best 2027–2050. Decant gently if opening young. A natural pairing with refined dishes such as squab, duck, or truffle risotto.
