Domaine Paul Cherrier farms limestone-rich slopes in Verdigny with a focus on clarity and precision. La Croix Poignant is a single-site cuvée from old vines rooted in Kimmeridgian marl, harvested by hand and vinified with minimal intervention.

The 2024 was fermented with native yeasts in tank and aged on fine lees. It delivers saline cut and quiet intensity—an old-vine Sancerre that balances fruit purity with firm mineral structure.

Left Sustainably Farmed

Stéphane Cherrier took over as the winemaker for his family’s estate a few years ago and immediately began focusing on the vineyards and converting everything to organics, much as the Vacheron brothers and Stéphane Riffault did at their respective domaines. In the cellar the focus is on purity and elegance. Steel tanks and some large, older barrels are the rule; barriques are eschewed.

Much of the estate’s fruit has historically been sold off to other producers, but Stéphane is increasingly keeping the best parcels and vats to bottle under the family name.
