The name Roulot is now a synonym for the very best wine that the village of Meursault can offer. It is rather remarkable when you consider that just 2 generations back the Roulot's were known as producers of Burgundian brandy and eau de vie. But Guy Roulot began leveraging the family's distilling success to purchase small plots of vines in Meursault and by the 1970's was known as a pioneer for producing top quality chardonnay from distinct parcels or ""lieu-dits"".

When Guy passed away unexpectedly in the early '80's his son Jean-Marc was pursuing acting in Paris. In 1989 he returned to take on the reigns of the small Domaine and in the following decades built on his father's success so well that the wines are now extremely hard to acquire and to afford for most of us.

Professional Reviews

Burghound

BH 95
"From a 1.37 ha parcel. Elegant, cool and restrained aromas of pear essence, jasmine tea, hazelnut and a hint of petrol are trimmed in pretty floral wisps. There is fine mid-palate density to the middle super-sleek and lilting weight flavors that possess a beguiling texture while the impressively long and complex finale is supported by firm lemon-tinged acidity. This is outstanding and classic Bouchères, e.g., a wine of finesse." -Allen Meadows

"The 2023 Meursault Clos des Bouchères 1er Cru has a cohesive bouquet with wonderful purity, but maybe the debuting Genevrières has a little more mineralité and bandwidth. The palate is very well balanced with lovely poise and purity, hints of praline and grilled walnut furnishing the persistent finish that lingers in the mouth. This will vie with the Genevrières in the future—it's fascinating to compare the duo." -Neal Martin

Robert Parker

"The 2023 Meursault 1er Cru Clos des Bouchères is lovely, offering up aromas of nutmeg, orange zest, white flowers, freshly baked bread and struck match, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and racy palate that's pure, electric and saline." -William Kelley

"Roulot's 2023 Clos des Bouchères is impossibly seductive, boasting a ripe pear fruit aroma with a floral note and hints of coconut water, flinty minerality, and smoky reduction. Winemaker Paul Delorme notes that the Clos des Bouchères is a stony vineyard, similar to Perrières. The texture is powerful, concentrated, and yet elegant with its saline edge. According to Delorme, the trick is to put the lees into suspension with a quick stirring before malolactic and then leave it alone since Roulot wants to bottle when the wine is slightly reductive." -Charles Curtis MW
