Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier farms just over half a hectare in Les Amoureuses, Chambolle’s most coveted Premier Cru. The 2013 vintage was cool and late, yielding wines of finesse and aromatic precision.

Fermented with minimal extraction and aged in older barrels, it captures the vineyard’s hallmark perfume and silk. A benchmark for terroir transparency and Mugnier’s restrained style.

JF (Freddy) Mugnier needs no introduction to Burgundy fanatics: for several decades now he has been crafting some of the finest examples of Chambolle ever made. A quiet and thoughtful person, his wines mirror the grace and charm that Freddy exudes. A visit to the Chateau Chambolle to chat and taste with him is easily one of the highlights of any of our wine travels.

All of Freddy's Chambolle offerings are the pinnacle of their appellations.

Burghound

"An intensely spicy and floral nose is composed of a wide ranging mélange of purple fruit and red currant scents along with a hint of sandalwood. In contrast to the muscular Bonnes Mares the middle weight flavors are all lace and satin yet it's lace and satin with superb punch and even more evident minerality on the extraordinarily persistent and impeccably well-balanced finish that is presently quite linear. This is a wine of harmony and intensity which will also require ample bottle age."

"The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru offers perfumed rose petals on the nose that combine seamlessly with the shimmering red fruit, redcurrant and wild strawberry, a suggestion of wild mint with time. The palate is medium-bodied, less strict than I have noticed on previous bottles with a very long and harmonious finish. This is outstanding in context of the vintage and will give many years of drinking pleasure."

"Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses from Frédéric Mugnier has a very pure and perfumed bouquet with gorgeous redcurrant and wild strawberry scents, beautifully integrated oak, almost pastille-like as it opens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, a little strict and linear towards the finish, but the focus and the structure are superb. Classy and sophisticated from start to finish, this is one of the finest contributions to the vintage. Simply delicious. Tasted September 2016." -Neal Martin

"Scented and seductive on the nose. Lots obviously going on underneath. Sweet start and wonderfully gentle but with some deep savoury notes underneath. Masses of juice and potential but still relatively raw. Like a gangly teenager at present. But there is miraculous transparency."
