Join us for an intimate seminar with Elena Brovia, fourth-generation winemaker and co-owner of one of Barolo's most revered traditionalist estates. This is a rare opportunity to taste directly with a producer whose family has been crafting benchmark Barolos from the heart of Castiglione Falletto since 1863—wines that represent the purest, most uncompromising expressions of classic Barolo being made today.
The Brovia story begins in 1863 when Giacinto Brovia founded the estate in Castiglione Falletto. After interruptions from phylloxera and two world wars, production resumed in 1953 under brothers Giacinto and Raffaele, grandchildren of the founder. Today, Giacinto's daughters Cristina and Elena, along with Elena's husband Alex Sanchez, lead the estate with an unwavering commitment to traditional methods and organic viticulture. What sets Brovia apart is their extraordinary holdings in some of Barolo's most legendary sites—50-to-60 year old vines in Rocche and Villero (both named among Barolo's ten greatest crus in Renato Ratti's landmark 1980 classification), Garblet Sue in Castiglione Falletto, and the 1950s-planted Brea vineyard in Serralunga that produces their Ca'Mia bottling.
Brovia's approach is refreshingly uncompromising: organic farming without certification, cement tank fermentation, aging in large Slavonian oak botti, and bottling without filtration. The results are wines of extraordinary purity and longevity—but production is minuscule. Only 450 cases each of Rocche and Villero, about 300 of Ca'Mia, and just 200 cases of Garblet Sue are made annually, making these wines exceedingly difficult to source even for dedicated importers. Their Barbera and other wines are equally tiny in production and classically made.
Elena will guide us through five wines spanning Brovia's range: 2024 Arneis, 2023 Barbera, 2021 Nebbiolo d'Alba, 2021 Barolo, and the 2021 Ca'Mia—their single-vineyard Barolo from seven-decade-old vines in Serralunga's Brea cru. This is an essential experience for anyone serious about understanding traditional Barolo and the terroir-driven wines of Piedmont. The opportunity to taste with Elena provides rare insight into how old-world methods, organic farming, and extraordinary vineyard sites combine to create some of Italy's most profound wines.
