An earlier generation of Californians was inspired by the great sparkling wine houses of Champagne. Producers like Schramsberg, as well as some directly affiliated with those Champagne houses like Roederer, came on the scene.
For today's generation, the inspiration is a little different. They still look to Champagne, but now it's to the Growers, and in particular to those younger growers who have focused on single vineyard/single vintage expressions.
California, of course, also has vintages and vineyards! It also has plenty of winemaking talent, and plenty of great sites for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. And so it is that we have Under the Wire, a new sparkling wine project from Morgan Twain-Peterson and his partner Chris Cottrell.
It's really hard to think of very many people better suited to this task. Morgan is an incredible winemaker. He started when he was 5 years old...seriously! And he and Chris have been turning our heads and many others with their great wines at Bedrock.
