Drop into California's volcanic highlands where a legendary pilot's legacy lives on in this bold Zinfandel. Buck Cobb's dry-farmed vineyard sits at 1,500 feet on granitic soils in Amador County, enduring scorching summers to craft one of the region's most distinctive wines. This 2016 displays aromas of cherries, pencil shavings, bay leaf, and cassis, unfolding with chewy tannins, a juicy core of fruit, and a saline finish that speaks to the rocky terroir. Head-trained and vineyard-designated, this is California mountain Zinfandel at its most mineral and focused.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 93
"The 2016 Zinfandel Buck Cobb Vineyard shows a riper, more overt side of Zinfandel relative to the other wines in this range. Succulent dark cherry, tobacco, cedar, dried herbs and olives add character. This is a decidedly bold, fruit-driven style, yet the wine retains a mid-weight sense of structure as well as good acidity. Today, though, the tannins are a bit clenched. The 2016 will be an absolute rock star if it opens up a bit more." -Antonio Galloni

"The 2016 Zinfandel Buck Cobb Vineyard derives from a head-trained, dry-farmed site planted in the late 1990s on granitic soils in Amador County. Displaying aromas of cherries, pencil shavings, bay leaf and cassis, it's medium to full-bodied, with chewy tannins, a juicy core of fruit and a focused, saline finish." -William Kelley
