From the producer: intense garnet-red color. The nose, while stark to begin with, reveals complex floral notes that emerge after a few minutes in the glass. Striking notes of red fruit, orange and white pepper. It is fine on the palate, with hints of ripe red berries. Soft, crunchy and persistent tannins. The acidity is vibrant and vertical. Very elegant and refined. We recommend decanting a few hours before serving.

One of the great names from Barolo, Vietti has been a pioneering force in Piedmont for decades, going back to the 1961 Rocche, one of the first single-vineyard designated bottles ever. The Rocche, and other single Cru wines from outside Castiglione, are among the most sought-after Barolo being made today.

Vietti also makes a Barolo normale called Castiglione, which confusingly is made mostly with fruit from Ravera, in the village of Novello, rather than Castiglione. It’s a good wine to stock up on just about every vintage. The style at Vietti is neither particularly traditional or particularly modern: a down-the-middle approach that is focused primarily on quality and terroir expression.

Professional Reviews

Robert Parker

"The Vietti 2020 Barolo Ravera offers dark fruit, cherry and blackcurrant enhanced by soft spice. You also get a sun-kissed note of eggplant, tomato leaf and ferrous earth. Ravera displays strong lines with good acidity and firm tannic backbone. It closes dry and ages in large oak botte only. This is one of the most eyeballed MGAs sites. Ravera, with its open mountain skyline and cool temperatures, is seen as one of the best sites in the appellation, especially as the climate changes." -Robert Parker

"The nose is immediately captivating, offering a blend of black macerated cherries and a unique crushed vitamin note, complemented by delicate baby roses and fresh green herbs. On the palate, the wine showcases a robust structure, with firm and chewy tannins that grip the tongue. As the wine opens, its true potential is revealed."
