Villa Sant'Anna is a terrific winery that almost wasn't — Simona Ruggeri and her two daughters farm a large estate, planted almost entirely to fruits and vegetables and just 10 hectares of grapes that, in the olden days, were sold off in bulk. In 1989 the family experimented with making their own wine and were thrilled at the results. This gained them the attention of star importer Neal Rosenthal, and the rest is history.
