Hannes Roterfaden is from Rosswag. He went to Geisenheim where he met his Greek wife, Olympia. The two shared a dream of making their own wines and spent the next several years traveling the globe, staging in its most renowned regions, looking for the right place to put down roots and start something of their own. Then they realized everything they wanted was right here, in Rosswag.
They've slowly collected plots, a few rows at a time, converting to biodynamics. To help with the backbreaking labor they've employed an ingenious use of modern technology: drones. Computerized spraying regimes save them time, money and effort.
Cellar work is about as gentle and hands off as you can imagine. In an old converted barn they foot stomp grapes, allow for spontaneous fermentation, use low extraction techniques and then let the wines sit in large neutral barrels up to a year. No fining, no filtering and a touch of sulfur at bottling.
